The recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Johnson County has resulted in more positive cases among health care workers at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

KCRG TV reports that staff that has tested positive are sent home to isolate until their conditions have improved without the use of fever-reducing medications.

It’s unclear if staff is getting the virus from patients, or vice-versa, but Chief Medical Officer Dr. Theresa Brennan says among the staff, most of the new cases have come among 18-25 year olds who tested positive after going to large social gatherings.

KCJJ has learned that a daily update provided to UIHC employees on June 26th showed 145 staffers in total having tested positive for coronavirus since the pandemic began.

The UIHC is cautioning people going out to celebrate this holiday weekend to wear masks, practice social distancing, avoid large gatherings, and not to share food.
