Coronavirus cases in Iowa surpasses 30,000

The state of Iowa has now surpassed the 30,000 mark in confirmed positive COVID-19 cases, according to the state’s official website dedicated to the pandemic.

No further deaths were reported, keeping that total at 717, but total positive cases were at 30,059 just before noon Thursday.

Johnson County added another 53 cases, after reporting 39 new cases the day before. That’s now 16 straight days the county has reported new cases in the double digits. 70 percent of those testing positive fall in the 18-40 age group.

New hospitalizations went down from 29 Wednesday to 18 for the same period ending Thursday.
