An early morning fire has displaced a Cedar Rapids resident from his home.

According to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, firefighters were called to 1220 11th Street Northwest at 1:38am Sunday for a reported cooking fire. A resident told investigators he was cooking egg rolls when oil splattered, igniting the blaze. The occupant, identified in the news release as Todd McMurrium, tried to put the fire out with a portable fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.

Arriving CRFD units found fire coming from the rear of the home. Firefighters ventilated the house to remove products of combustion. The fire was quickly knocked down, although there was fire damage to the kitchen and living room areas and smoke damage throughout the home.

The news release says McMurrium was displaced by the blaze. The house’s owner is listed as Ed Bohren.

There were no reported injuries.
