CR Police arrest suspect in weekend shooting

Cedar Rapids police have arrested a suspect in the Saturday evening shooting at the Westdale Court Apartments.

According to a media release from the department, officers were called to the complex at 3909 20th Avenue Southwest at 6:37pm on reports of a possible shooting. Arriving police located an apartment with bullet holes and shell casings.

One victim was reportedly shot in the arm and was transported to a hospital via private vehicle prior to police arriving on scene. The name of the victim has not yet been released.

Through an ongoing investigation, the shooting suspect was identified as 20-year-old Dondre’ Davon Lee. He was located Sunday morning in the 4000 block of 21st Avenue Southwest and police took him into custody.

Police say Lee discharged a firearm at five individuals at the apartment, and have charged him with five counts of Attempt to Commit Murder, 1st Degree Burglary, Going Armed with Intent, and Carrying Weapons. If convicted on the five attempted murder counts alone, Lee could be sentenced to 125 years in prison.

Lee was the victim in an unrelated incident earlier that day; he sustained a stab wound to the head from his mother at 2am.  34-year-old Dominique Tierre Lee was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing injury with a dangerous weapon and providing false ID information. If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to 25 months in prison.
