A California man faces OWI charges after being stopped for speeding Saturday night in North Liberty.

According to arrest reports, 40-year-old Brian Wier of Cardiff, California, was clocked going 57 in a 45 mile-per-hour zone just before 11:30pm Saturday on the 1200 block of South Dubuque Street. Police say Wier appeared agitated when speaking with them, and a K9 positively alerted to the odor of drugs coming from his Mercedes.

Wier allegedly had watery eyes and constricted pupils, and showed measurable signs of impairment on field tests. Weir reportedly told officers that he regularly takes trazodone which he is not prescribed, and also admitted to taking pain killers the day before. The report indicates Wier couldn’t remember if he had taken the pain killers on Saturday.

After submitting to a urine test for chemical testing, Wier was charged with OWI, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
