An Iowa City man who was on probation on forgery charges and allegedly violated the terms of his probation was picked up and taken to the Johnson County Jail on Friday.

Police say 45-year-old Irving Howard cashed a forged check at the Green State Credit Union branch on 2nd Street in Coralville on June 19th of last year for $340. The victim reported on July 1st that several checks had gone missing from her bag in the middle of May and discovered the cashed check in her bank records.

It was one of three forgery incidents Howard was allegedly involved in.

Howard was put on probation and was supposed to maintain steady contact with his parole officer, which he reportedly failed to do. A warrant for his arrest was issued on October 8th; he was located and booked into the Johnson County Jail.

Among the charges Irving faces are the three Class D felonies for Forgery; five counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges carry a total prison sentence of over 25 years if convicted.
