An Iowa City man is facing his second OWI charge after allegedly crashing his motorcycle Friday night.
According to arrest reports, 33 year-old Adam Zemanek was observed by a passerby operating a Harley near the intersection of Highway 6 and Riverside Drive when he crashed. Arriving officers reportedly observed Zemanek swaying back and forth after the crash. He denied any injuries or needing an ambulance.
Police say Zemanek smelled strongly of ingested alcohol, had slurred speech and impaired balance. After showing significant signs of impairment on field sobriety tests, Zemanek reportedly told officers that he had been drinking prior to getting on his bike, and admitted being too intoxicated to drive.
Zemanek refused a PBT, but a subsequent Datamaster test showed his blood/alcohol level at a .198.
Zemanek was previously convicted of OWI in Johnson County on March 9th of this year. He’s been charged with his second OWI, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years if convicted.
