A Hills man wanted on a warrant was taken into custody Tuesday night and faces additional charges surrounding his arrest.

Coralville police were called to assist Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies in locating a wanted subject. They found the man, identified as 35-year-old Joshua Simmons of East Main Street, in the 200 block of 9th Street in Coralville just after 10pm.

At first, Simmons gave officers a false ID, then refused to exit the vehicle he was in. It took four officers to get him out of the vehicle, and he then became combative. Officers reportedly had to restrain Simmons to the ground, where he was still combative and non-compliant.

Simmons allegedly admitted to, and officers found, a drug pipe on his person. An officer suffered a hand and elbow injury during the altercation.

Simmons was charged with Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury, providing False ID, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on those charges, Simmons could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
