Local Brewery staff to donate tips to civil rights group

Staff members at a local brewery and pub have announced that this Thursday, they will be holding a“Day of Wages” in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, and an organization co-founded by an Iowa City resident.

According to a release from Big Grove Brewery, during operating hours that day, any and all tips received by front of house employees, and additional donation from customers, will be matched up to $10,000.

All proceeds will be donated to Humanize My Hoodie, whose mission is to empower Black people to stand up against racial injustice. Andre’ Wright, co-founder of the group, says in the release, “We are grateful for organizations like Big Grove standing in solidarity with the Humanize My Hoodie Movement. They understand the importance of having conversations about race and the importance of building the Black community.”

Big Grove co-founder Matt Swift added, “Social injustice is real and we are proud of our team members that are peacefully fighting for change.”

Big Grove will be open from 11am-8pm Thursday.
