If you’re trying not to call attention to yourself if you’re driving while barred, it’s a good idea to have all the equipment on your car up to regulations. A Cedar Rapids man learned that lesson the hard way Sunday morning when he was pulled over for a unique violation.

36-year-old Larell Young of 12th Street Northeast was travelling westbound on Interstate 80 near the Tiffin exit just after 9:30am. An officer was heading to a medical call when he noticed the vehicle Young was driving dragging its entire exhaust system behind it in the right lane.

Upon stopping the vehicle, Young told officers he wasn’t valid to drive. A check of Young’s driving record showed he was barred for a four-year period due to end this December 14th.

He was charged with Driving While Barred, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison term of up to two years if convicted.
