It’s a bad idea to draw attention to yourself when you have a felonious amount of drugs in your vehicle…a lesson an Iowa City man learned the hard way after he was stopped by police with a passenger hanging almost entirely out of his car window Wednesday night.

North Liberty Police say they observed 18-year-old Louis Stephan of West Overlook Road driving his BMW near Sugar Creek Lane and Zeller Street just before 11pm when they noticed a passenger with what they describe as “100% of his body” out of the vehicle’s window. Stephan was pulled over, and he admitted he and the subject hanging out of the window were just “messing around”.

A police K9 alerted on the vehicle, and a search turned up several marijuana wax containers with residue. Officers also recovered a bottle of syrup that contained approximately 52 ML of THC syrup. Police say that amount is for more than personal use. A bag containing smoking devices was also found.

Stephan is charged with a Controlled Substance Violation, a Drug Tax Stamp Violation, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Reckless Driving, If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over ten years in prison.
