A Coralville man reportedly threw his own brother under the bus by using his name when being arrested for shoplifting.
According to police, 41-year-old Jerry Plasencio of 10th Street Place was stopped in the 2100 block of that street May 22nd at 11am as a suspect for shoplifting at the Casey’s on 2nd Street in Coralville. Staff there say he took a bottle of power steering fluid and concealed it on his person without an attempt to pay for it.
Plasencio allegedly didn’t have ID on hin, and gave the name and date of birth of a male with a North Carolina driver’s license. Plasencio was cited, and signed the false name on the citation.
A later investigation determined that Plasencio gave his brother’s name instead of his own, and confirmed they were two different people when photographs were compared.
Plasencio has been charged with malicious prosecution, and fifth degree theft. If convicted, Plasencio could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
