A Florida man who had two previous convictions for domestic assault in his home state has been charged with a third after an alleged incident in Iowa City.
According to police, 37-year-old Gary Frazier of Opa Locka Florida confronted an ex partner on Sunday in the 700 block of Carriage Hill by pulling in front of her car as it was driving on the street. He allegedly demanded that the woman give his car back.
During an investigation into the matter, the woman showed police text conversations about an assault that occurred three days previous to Sunday’s incident. She had a fresh scratch on her face, and accused Frazier of making the scratch.
When the woman confronted Frazier with pictures of her injuries, he said he knew about the scratch but denied knowing how it happened. He allegedly told police that he hadn’t seen the woman in over two weeks, but her text messages indicated otherwise.
Frazier was placed under arrest, and a subsequent search reportedly turned up a medicine bottle with a nugget of marijuana, and a rolled blunt with marijuana inside of it.
If convicted on the assault and possession charges, Frazier could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
