Today’s the day Iowa is opening the economy in 22 counties that were previously locked out of Governor Kim Reynolds proclamation due to levels of coronavirus cases.
Starting at 5am, restaurants, salons, barbershops, massage businesses, tattoo parlors, fitness centers, libraries and race tracks were allowed to reopen.
The facilities can operate at 50% customer capacity and must adhere to social distancing and other guidelines detailed in the governor’s order.
Several area businesses, including restaurants, have made the decision either to not open or continue to stay open with take out, pick up or delivery services only. KCJJ is in the process of updating our list of area businesses that have been closed on our website, www.1630kcjj.com, but you’re encouraged to contact them via social media sites before you venture out.
Bars, casinos, movie theatres, concert sites and other similar businesses remain closed indefinitely.
People 65 and over and those considered high risk to be infected by coronavirus are still being urged to stay home.
Iowa City has set up a website with COVID-19 news updates and resources at www.icgov.org/Coronavirus.
