An Oxford man who allegedly returned home after a night of drinking is accused of assaulting his girlfriend early Thursday morning.
According to arrest reports, 34-year-old Ryan Butler, whose address is listed on Northridge Drive in West Branch, arrived at the residence on Rhine Creek Way Northwest in Oxford around 4am. He reportedly became belligerent and verbally abusive towards his girlfriend, who he shares a child with.
At one point, Butler is accused of slapping her in the face, grabbing her by the neck and choking her. The actions were said to have left two bruise marks on the woman.
A search of Butler incident to arrest found an unlabeled pill bottle containing a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana. Another small container on Butler’s person was labeled “fresh wax” with a THC warning.
A check of Butler’s criminal record shows two previous convictions for domestic assault in September of 2012 and August of 2011.
Butler was charged with domestic abuse assault third offense, domestic abuse assault restricting airflow and possession of a controlled substance, and could be sentenced to up to eight years in prison if convicted.
A no-contact order was requested between Butler and his girlfriend.
