Retiring UI Public Safety director to stay on through end of 2020

Last February, retiring University of Iowa Department of Public Safety director Scott Beckner thought his last day on the job would be next month. Then the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, and now Beckner is staying on through the end of the year.
Due to what they call the “critical” nature of the pandemic, UI officials say they’ve reached an agreement with Beckner to lead the department through January 1st, 2021. He was originally set to step down in June.
Beckner has spent almost 34 years in law enforcement, including nearly four years at the UI and almost 30 in higher education.
