A hearing date has been set in the appeal of a former director of the Iowa City Hillel House convicted of sexually abusing a nine-year-old boy.

29-year-old David Weltman was convicted of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse in March.

The abuse allegedly happened when Weltman was giving the boy Hebrew lessons at Hillel House between February 1 and March 31 of 2019.

The victim told authorities that Weltman picked him up, carried him into another room and touched him inappropriately. One of Weltman’s acquaintances alleges that Weltman admitted that he touched a child and admitted that he’s attracted to young boys.

Weltman’s sentencing is set for June 12th. On Monday Judge Chad Kepros set a hearing to hear Weltman’s request for an appeal for May 15th.
