A man who was convicted of Sexual Abuse back in 1999 was charged for violating sex offender requirements when he allegedly moved to Coralville, then Iowa City, and neglected to notify authorities.
According to arrest records, 43-year-old Kennthony Jackson was encountered in the course of investigating a disturbance at his South Lucas residence. He had an active warrant out of Missouri for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. He was convicted of a Tier 3 offense, which requires a minimum of 25 years of registration, and quarterly updates with the Sheriff’s office in the county he is residing. Jackson is also prohibited from living within 2000 feet of a school or child care facility.
Under Miranda, Jackson reportedly admitted that he moved to the 900 block of 12th Avenue in Coralville around November and lived there for approximately two months before moving to Iowa City.
A check of records indicate that Jackson did not register within five days of moving to his residence in Iowa City, and there is no Sex Offender registry record of him moving to Iowa.
Jackson was convicted of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse against a 14-year-old victim in Cook County Illinois in December of 1999. Jackson claimed he did not register with the state because he didn’t believe he was required to.
Jackson was taken into custody at 2:30am Monday, and charged with a residency violation as a sex offender, and a registration violation. With the Missouri charge, Jackson could be sentenced to a maximum of fifteen years in prison if he’s convicted.
