An inmate at Hope House is accused of using one of the facility’s computers to search for pornography.
According to the Department of Corrections, on April 19th, Hope House resident Brice Widstrom was caught using a computer to search for and view pornography using the search terms “painful teen anal”. The 28-year-old Widstrom went to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics four days later, where an inpatient psychiatric admission was requested. He reportedly refused.
Widstrom is charged with violating his probation. He was sentenced to Hope House after pleading guilty to a 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse charge in 2012. Widstrom admitted to having sex with and providing alcohol, marijuana and synthetic drugs to a pair of 15-year-old girls.
Widstrom was also charged with escaping from custody after fleeing from the UIHC during a psychiatric evaluation later that year. He was captured by UI Police a short time later near Quadrangle residence hall, but not before a struggle that saw him kick one officer and try to bite another.
Widstrom also pleaded guilty to an Assault Causing Bodily Injury charge in 2011 after attacking another man with a sword at the Iowa Lodge in Coralville. He was given credit for time served.
