A total of 90 people are now dead as a result of COVID-19 in Iowa.
The Department of Public Health announced Wednesday an additional seven deaths; two from Blackhawk and Muscatine Counties, and one each from Linn, Tama, and Woodbury County.
There are now 3748 confirmed cases in the state, led by Linn County’s 469. Polk County has 438 while Johnson is at 396.
The IDPH announced that it is offering coronavirus testing for all employees of long-term care facilities in Tama County because of a rising number of cases in the region. Governor Kim Reynolds has frequently noted that a large percentage of those who have died from the virus live in long-term care facilities.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington now says after June 26, 2020, relaxing social distancing in Iowa may be possible with containment strategies that include testing, contact tracing, isolation, and limiting gathering size. They’re projecting the peak to now hit on May 5th, and 365 total deaths due to the coronavirus.
Another update is expected late this morning. Further details on current numbers are available at www.idph.iowa.gov
