Coralville’s library has been continuing to provide their services to residents through on-line options, as well as curbside delivery service. But some of the librarians are wary of the practice, saying there’s a lack of sanitation protocol that concerns them.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports that the library got a clarification from the state’s Attorney General’s Office that gave them the leeway to offer curbside pickup.
Patrons have two times a day to get curbside delivery. They call the library once they’ve arrived, and wait on the sidewalk behind a taped line while a staffer brings their order out and puts it on a cart. Patrons are asked to wait until the staffer is back inside the building with the doors closed before they go to the cart to get their materials.
Still, the letter asks that the practice be stopped, arguing that while the service does benefit a small group of patrons, “the potential risks to staff and patrons are far too great.” They’re asking for staff to be sent home with full pay.
Short of stopping curbside pickup, the librarians ask for training on sanitizing the workplace and giving time during shifts to do so, adequate supplies of sanitizing products and other requests.
The Press-Citizen reports that over 700 people have taken advantage of curbside pickup since Governor Reynolds
Trustees will review the letter Wednesday night during their meeting.
