The Hawkeye Area Community Action Program has announced that low-income individuals who are seeking help with home heating costs now have until the end of May to apply for LIHEAP, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
In a release from HACAP Monday, Communications and Volunteers Manager Chris Ackman says that individuals who have not yet applied for energy assistance this year can do so by downloading the application documents online or by calling their offices. The offices themselves are closed to the public, but drop boxes are available outside for those who need to physically turn in applications.
The average LIHEAP payment, which is a one-time payment to the individual’s primary heating utility, is about $400. Since the 1st of October, HACAP has received over 7150 applications for assistance.
The forms are availalbe at www.hacap.org/liheap or by calling 319-739-0100.
