The University of Iowa’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital has admitted its first two COVID-19 patients.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the two were brought to the hospital Wednesday, and are isolated from adult cases at the UIHC.
No information has been released about the age or gender of the patients. Johnson County has no reported cases of COVID-19 cases in children under 18. Polk County, with 3, has the most.
Even though children are less likely to suffer severe symptoms if they’re infected with the coronavirus, parents are being urged to avoid playdates for kids. They also say kids should be kept away from high-risk family members, because although they’re not showing symptoms, they may be a carrier.
Governor Reynolds has ordered the closure of parks to hopefully limit the spread of coronavirus on playgrounds.
