Most of the over 6300 University of Iowa students living in residence halls have moved out now that instruction is being done exclusively online for the rest of the semester. However, less than 100 are expected to stay.
Anne Bassett, a spokeswoman for the University ,tells the Cedar Rapids Gazette that that number, currently at 91, is likely to continue to evolve as students either solidify their plans to stay or make arrangements to travel home.
Of the three state-run universities, the UI’s number of remaining students is the lowest. At Iowa State, they still have about 320 remaining on campus, and 150 are residing in UNI campus housing.
The students have been relocated to apartment-style living, according to the paper, which allows them to have their own kitchen and private bathroom facilities. They also have the option of getting food from dining facilities on a take-out basis.
Here at the University of Iowa, students have been relocated to Stanley or Daum halls, where they have their own locking bathroom, a single room, a microwave and refrigerator. They are able to get meals at Burge Hall in to-go containers.
