An Iowa City man was taken into custody, reportedly shortly after being released from jail, after an alleged incident where he confronted a woman protected by a no-contact order.
Police say that on March 15th just before 10:30pm, 44-year-old Demetrius Casino Jones of Southgate Avenue showed up at the Town and Campus Apartments residence of the woman, who has an active no-contact order with him.
The woman alleged that Jones was at her bedroom window, yelling “I’m out of jail, bitch!” The woman told police she knew it was Jones’ voice because her window was open.
Officers located Jones at a nearby apartment, and he allegedly told them he saw the woman at a Kum & Go but didn’t interact with her. Jones was re-issued a criminal trespass order for the Town and Campus Apartments, as the officer issued the previous one just a day earlier to Jones at the same location for violating the no-contact order. The original trespass order, which covered all Town and Campus apartments, was issued on February 16th.
The no-contact order was issued in October of 2017.
Jones was taken into custody and charged with contempt for violating the no-contact order, and Trespass. A trial was set for May 12th before edicts from the state suspended such proceedings. The re-set non-jury trial date is now July 21st.
