While the Johnson County Board of Supervisors and other leaders around the state continue to push for Governor Kim Reynolds to issue a shelter-in-place order, she remains opposed to the idea.
During a news conference Tuesday, the governor said “I can’t lock the state down; I can’t lock everybody at home.”
Reynolds reiterated her request that people limit their travel, minimize contact and keep their distance from others. On March 17th, she shut down bars and restaurants with the exception of pickup or delivery options, and later in the month ordered non-essential retail establishments to close down. Reynolds has also limited gatherings to ten or less people and is asking businesses to allow work from home options if possible.
The governor said any additional requirements could put undue strain on the supply chain and essential workers.
Meanwhile, a Grinnell College poll shows that one in four workers in the country have lost wages due to the coronavirus pandemic.
