A North Liberty man has been taken into custody after being accused of assautling his former live-in girlfriend.
According to authorities, they were called to Holiday Lodge Road on Tuesday afternoon for a domestic assault. By the time they arrived, 25-year-old Terrence Kenyatta Robert Hawkins of Golfview Drive had left the residence. The woman stated that Hawkins, her ex-boyfriend, came over and agressively tried to take their dog.
Hawkins reportedly hit her three or four times with an open hand and choked her two different times, putting both hands around her neck for a total of about ten seconds.
Officers on scene allegedly noted red marks on the woman’s cheeks and around her neck.
The woman added that she and Hawkins had been together for about eight years and he had recently moved out.
A warrant was issued for Hawkins’ arrest, and he was booked into the Johnson County Jail Thursday afternoon. He’s been charged with domestic abuse assault impeding airflow, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years if convicted.
