The mayors of Iowa City, Coralville, Solon and North Liberty are telling residents to stay home and limit non-essential activities.
In a release Sunday, Iowa City mayor Bruce Teague said that social distancing and staying in place is the main thing all residents can do to slow the spread of coronavirus, and strongly urges residents to isolate in place as much as possible over the next two weeks.
Solon Mayor Steve Stange issued an official recommendation to residents Monday to stay home for the next 14 days, except for work or essential travel.
Also on Sunday, Governor Reynolds signed an executive order that closes hair and nail salons, spas, tattoo parlors, tanning facilities and swimming pools effective last night. The order is in effect until March 31 but may be extended if deemed necessary.
The governor is also asking anyone who has traveled recently for business reasons or spring break vacations, internationally or domestically, to self-isolate for fourteen days. However, Reynolds reiterated that she is not considering a “shelter in place” order severely limiting all non-essential movement in the state.
Johnson County Public Health announced Sunday that there are 32 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, and 90 statewide.
Part of the governor’s State Public Health Emergency Declaration Sunday includes the suspension of foreclosures on residential, commercial and agriculturual properties. Reynolds is also asking schools, churches or community centers to open day care centers for children of essential service workers.
Johnson County Public Health will provide an update today at 1pm and can be viewed on their Facebook page.
