The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says a North Liberty felon called them during a meth binge, leading them to his illegally-possessed firearm.

According to arrest records, 39-year-old Kyle Wagner of Swan Lake Road was extremely high on meth Saturday afternoon when he became paranoid, claiming someone was being held captive against their will in the basement where he and his girlfriend reside.

Deputies checked out the basement bedroom just after 4pm and discovered a shotgun and ammunition in a closet. Wagner has a felony drug conviction from 2015 and is unable to legally possess a firearm. He was arrested and charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Felon. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
