Police have made two arrests in a fatal January shooting in Cedar Rapids — including the brother of the victim.

Cedar Rapids police say in a news release Saturday that 17-year-old Kyler David Carson was arrested Friday evening for the January shooting that killed 18-year-old Andrew Gaston and injured 16-year-old Tyrell Jarule Gaston. Carson was arrested for Voluntary Manslaughter, Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana (Firearm Enhancement), Carrying Weapons, and Obstructing Prosecution.

Tyrell Gaston also was charged with Robbery-1st Degree, Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance – Marijuana (Firearm Enhancement), Carrying Weapons, and Obstructing Prosecution.

The shooting happened on Agin Court NE just after 11:45pm on January 24th. Police say Carson drove to the scene expecting to sell forty-five pre-rolled tubes of marijuana for $900. While Carson was engaged in delivering the marijuana to others in their car, Andrew Gaston, Tryell Gaston and a third subject ambushed Carson from behind with Andrew Gaston striking Carson in the back of the head with a metal object.

According to witnesses, Carson then turned around and exchanged gunfire with Tyrell Gaston before fleeing the scene. Both Carson and Tyrell Gaston later discarded their firearms.

Andrew Gaston died at the scene from a gunshot wound to his chest. Tyrell Gaston, who was shot in the ankle, survived the shooting.
