An Uzi-toting Coralville man who allegedly ran down two bystanders while trying to steal a car last summer has reached a plea deal.

Online records show 23-year-old Michael McClinton of 21st Avenue Place agreed to enter a guilty plea on Friday. Terms of the deal have not been released.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says that just before 9:15pm on July 19th McClinton was trying to steal a car at the Breckenridge Estates manufactured housing community on Taft Avenue when he pointed an Uzi at three different individuals. He allegedly pressed the barrel of the gun against one victim’s face and forced him to exit the vehicle. While attempting to flee in the car, McClinton allegedly ran over two people, causing serious injury to a female victim. Investigators say McClinton then continued fleeing on foot with the Uzi still in his possession.

McClinton remained at-large until he was arrested just after 7:45 the next night near Highway 965 and Sara Court in North Liberty for Driving While Barred. He was initially charged with Going Armed with Intent, two counts of Assault Causing Serious Injury, and three counts of Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted on all charges, he would have faced a maximum of 23 years in prison.

Online records indicate the charges have been altered to one count of Going Armed with intent and four counts of Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. Those charges carry a maximum sentence of 13 years in prison.
