The University of Iowa Health Care has implemented new adjustments to their operations in response to the community spread of coronavirus.
In an email to faculty and staff Monday, officials said they were going to adjust clinical services through at least April 3rd.
The number of surgical cases will be limited; critical and emergency surgeries will take priority, but elective and non-urgent surgeries will be postponed.
In addition, operations are being suspended at a number of UIHC clinics, including outreach clinics, and the Speech and Hearing Center. The cardiac and pulmonary clinics are being suspended to prevent the risk of patients getting an infection like COVID-19.
The College of Dentistry is closing all their clinics until April 3rd as well. Dental emergencies will still be handled by the college.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Unity Point Health-St. Luke’s Hospital have procedures in place but as there are no cases of community spread in Linn County, none have been activated. Mercy Iowa City and Mercy Medical Center Cedar Rapids are currently operating as usual.
