Anticipating layoffs due to the effects of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the state, Governor Kim Reynolds announced assistance available to both employers and employees.
In a release from Iowa Workforce, Reynolds announced that if you are laid off due to COVID-19 or have to stay home to self-isolate, care for family members or due to illness related to the virus, you can receive unemployment benefits.
If you’ve received wages from an employee who claims you as an employee in six of the last eighteen months and have earned at least $2500 during the same time period, you’re eligible.
Claimants can expect payment from a week to ten days after the claim is filed. Claims that are identified as a direct or indirect result of the coronavirus will not be charged to employers. Iowa Workforce Development will oversee the disbursements.
More information on filing and other updates are available at www.IowaWorkforceDevelopment.gov.
