Iowa City’s Streets Division will begin street sweeping operations on Monday to remove sand and debris from the roads to enhance public safety.
During this time, on-street parking will be prohibited in certain areas so that equipment can access the full width of the street. Vehicles not moved will be towed. “No parking due to maintenance” signs will be posted at least 48 hours in advance of any work to alert vehicle owners to move their cars.
On Monday crews will begin sweeping the Downtown area and will then focus on main arterial streets and bike lanes. After that, crews will move into the City’s residential areas.
Drivers are asked to be patient, as the sweepers are slow-moving and stop periodically to empty debris. Street-sweeping in the Downtown area is expected to be completed by Thursday. It takes crews about seven weeks to complete a full pass through the City.
Below is a list of locations that have been scheduled for sweeping on Tuesday, March 17 and Wednesday, March 18. Cars parked along these routes should be moved prior to the start of cleanup.
