City of Iowa City announces closures due to coronavirus

With the announcement that the 2019 coronavirus disease, also known as COVID-19, is now community spread in Iowa the City of Iowa City is making changes to slow the spread.

The Iowa Department of Public Health has released new mitigation guidelines, and in accordance with these recommendations the City will closing some facilities and postponing programs.

The Public Library is closed effective immediately, as is bookmobile service.

The Iowa City Parks and Rec Department has closed Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, Mercer Park Aquatic Center/Scanlon Gym, Terry Trueblood Lodge, and Ned Ashton House. All public park restrooms will remain closed as well.

The Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center is also closed to the public, but if you need to bring an animal in or make an appointment to adopt, the center is asking that you call ahead so that preparations can be made. Their number is 319-356-5295.

Basic services remain in place, such as police, fire, water service, and trash pickup.  The city says the closures will remain in place until at least April 5th and say they will follow recommendations from the state Department of Health along with county and federal communications.
