Governor Kim Reynolds announced Thursday that there are now 16 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Iowa.

Two more people have tested positive for COVID-19, one from Johnson County and one from Carroll County. Both are recovering at home. Both people were on a cruise to Egypt, which has been linked to most cases in Iowa.

Meanwhile, Des Moines Public Schools are closing for at least 17 days starting at 6pm tonight. There are no known instances of any staff that’s been exposed to someone with the coronavirus, but superintendent Thomas Ahart said the closure is a precaution and will include a “deep clean” of all schools. They hope to reopen March 30th.
