Overnight I80 crash results in death of Marion woman

A crash overnight on Interstate 80 has resulted in the death of a Marion woman.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 1210am Friday on the eastbound portion of the interstate at around the 253 mile marker.  48-year-old Jennifer Ferguson of Marion was stopped with part of her 2004 Chevrolet Impala in the traveled portion of the roadway. A vehicle driven by 27-year-old Callie Verschoore of Marion struck Ferguson’s car in the driver’s side rear before it entered the median and rolled on its side. The impact of the crash caused Ferguson’s car to leave the traveled portion of the roadway and came to rest in the south ditch.

The crash resulted in Ferguson’s death.  Verschoore was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by responders from Cedar County, Johnson County, and West Branch. The incident remains under investigation.
