An Iowa City woman has been taken into custody after reportedly trying to break into a trailer Wednesday.

According to police, 26-year-old Diana DeJesus Rivera of the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community was called in as attempting to break into a trailer in the park. Sometime later, Rivera was reported throwing rocks at cars east of Riverside Drive. Officers attempted to contact Rivera at her residence, where she later showed up.

Police say Rivera refused to listen to officer commands and tried walking away from the scene, and allegedly had watery eyes and smelled of ingested alcohol.

Rivera was arrested and while being transported to the Johnson County Jail is accused of trying to jump across the seat of the squad car and grab items out of an officer’s bag. Once at the jail, Rivera reportedly tried to get away and kicked a deputy during the booking process.

A subsequent search of Rivera’s pockets turned up registration papers and insurance papers of vehicles located in Lake Ridge that she had no right to be in.

Rivera has been charged with 3rd degree Burglary, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Interference with Official Acts, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to over three years in prison.
