A Coralville man was arrested on warrants stemming from a September incident when he allegedly brought a loaded handgun to an Iowa City school

According to police, the incident occurred the morning of September 18th, when then 19-year-old Jeremiah Neal of Boston Way was in a classroom at Tate High School around 9am. A staff member picked up Neal’s bag and felt what they believed to be a gun inside. Neal refused to let staff look at the contents of the bag and left the school.

Officers caught up with Neal outside the school and seized the backpack. They were able to get a search warrant on the bag, and located a loaded .357 revolver inside.

A warrant was granted on September 19th; he was booked into the Johnson County Jail Wednesday morning and charged with Carrying Weapons on School Grounds, and Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon due to a felony conviction from 2018 for second degree robbery.

If convicted on both charges, Neal could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
