An additional person who was on the Egyptian cruise that returned earlier this month has tested positive for the coronavirus, increasing the state’s total to 14.

13 of those infected are from Johnson County and were on a cruise that returned on March 3rd.

On Wednesday, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics admitted its first coronavirus patient, who is said to be in “critical condition.”

In an e-mail to faculty and staff, the UIHC stated that all proper procedures and precautions were followed during the admissions process and staff members were properly protected.

Hospital CEO Suresh Gunasekaran said the patient will be isolated for the duration of treatment.

Current numbers from the Iowa Department of Public Health show 105 residents having been tested; 14 positive, 67 negative and 24 whose results are pending. Additionally, 126 people are being monitored by IDPH, and 45 have completed their monitoring period.

The other lone case of COVID-19 in the state is from Pottawattamie County.
