Four more Johnson County residents who went on a recent Egyptian cruise have tested positive for COVID-19.

State officials said Monday five more cases of the virus had been discovered in Iowa. The fifth is a restaurant worker in Council Bluffs.

The new cases bring the total number of Iowa infections to eight. On Sunday, officials announced Iowa’s first COVID-19 cases, as three individuals from Johnson County who had been on the cruise tested positive. The cruise ran from Feb. 17 to March 2. The individuals returned home on March 3.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness.
