The Iowa Board of Regents has issued a ban on all university sponsored international travel for all faculty, student and staff for 30 days, a response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Board of Regents president Bruce Richards says the ban is immediate and includes spring break.

Iowa’s state-run universities had already canceled international study abroad programming, which affected 120 University of Iowa students, and 140 at Iowa State.

Administrators at the University of Iowa told the Cedar Rapids Gazette this week that they still have about 300 students studying abroad, but they’re in less-affected nations.

The international travel prohibition could be extended.
