An Iowa City transient has been arrested after an alleged theft at a Mid American Energy location.

According to police, they were called to the Mid-American station on Lower Muscatine Road after 35-year-old Andrew Pearson was reportedly seen on security cameras within their property.

Pearson was located on the CRANDIC railroad tracks just north of the facility by a uniformed officer. The officer allegedly ordered Pearson to stop, but says that he twice attempted to flee while making sudden movements toward his waistband. He reportedly only stopped following a threat of force.

Pearson was allegedly found with Mid-American property, which included copper and a crimper, with a value of approximately $2500. He reportedly admitted to the theft.

Pearson was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree theft and interference with official acts. If convicted, he could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
