Fire damaged a residence in southeast Iowa City overnight.
According to a news release from the Iowa City Fire Department, crews were called to a structure fire at 1521 Broadway Street at 1:15am Wednesday. The first fire unit arrived within five minutes and reported fire showing from the west side of the house. Fire crews entered the house and brought the fire under control approximately thirteen minutes after arrival.
The sole occupant of the house had exited the home prior to the fire department’s arrival.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Total property damage is estimated to be $40,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the ICFD Fire Marshal.
