An Iowa City woman who allegedly used a credit card that belonged to a Washington State individual to purchase a gift card last summer has been arrested.

According to police reports, 25-year-old Jakeiya Brown of Shady Glen Court used the victim’s credit card information to put $250 on a gift card at Petland on Lower Muscatine Road August 21st at around 7:30pm. Police say they don’t know how Brown retrieved the victim’s credit card information since the victim lives outside Seattle.

Brown and another unnamed suspect were seen on security video using the information and manually inputting it to get the gift card. The two returned to the store to allegedly try to purchase a dog and pet supplies with the gift card, but were denied due to employee suspicions.

Brown was reportedly identified due to her providing her ID to store employees when originally placing the money on the gift card; a copy was made of the ID and provided to police.

Brown was wanted for failing to appear for a probation meeting in March of last year when she was stopped for non-functioning taillights on April 6th 2019. She was on probation for two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card.

Brown was taken into custody early Sunday morning and charged with fifth degree theft and unauthorized use of a credit card. Those charges carry a combined maximum sentence of three years in prison.
