Trying to walk out of a department store with over $1000 in merchandise without paying for it has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.

Police reports indicate that employees at the Coral Ridge Mall Target observed 30-year-old Ryan Kangail of Hawks Ridge Drive Friday at 4:20pm exiting the store with a shopping cart full of items that hadn’t been paid for. Loss prevention personnel stopped Kangail outside the store and brought him back in with the alleged stolen items.

Kangail reportedly admitted to stealing the items, and was taken into custody. He’s been charged with 3rd degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison term of up to two years if convicted.
