A Coralville man is facing charges after allegedly forcing his way into his separated wife’s residence Sunday night.

According to arrest reports, 34-year-old Rahul Thomare of Euclid Drive went to the residence of his wife of five years on Lincoln Avenue in Iowa City just after 11:30pm. He and the woman are still married but are separated.

Thomare is accused of using a set of duplicate keys to gain entry to the residence, with no right or authority to do so. When he was unable to open the door, Thomare allegedly forced the door open, damaging the door frame and latch. He’s then accused of shouting at the woman and her roommate, physically shoving both of them.

Thomare reportedly made threatening statements to his wife and fled when the roommate called 911. Police were given a description of the vehicle Thomare was driving and the hotel he was reportedly staying at. Hotel staff told officers that Thomare was leaving the hotel; he was subsequently located and arrested.

Thomare allegedly admitted to being at the woman’s apartment and confronting the two. He told police that he fled the residence because he was scared.

Thomare was arrested and charged with 2nd degree Burglary, 4th degree Criminal Mischief and first offense Domestic Abuse Assault. If convicted on all counts, Thomare could be sentenced to over eleven years in prison.

Police report that Thomare’s wife and roommate are fearful of him and requested no contact orders.
