A Cedar Rapids woman is accused of assaulting her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, then bragging about it via text message.

The alleged victim reported the incident at the Iowa City Police Department. She told investigators that she had been with her boyfriend at The Airliner in the early morning hours of February 23rd when his ex-girlfriend, 21-year-old Taylor Kinney of Eagle Road Southwest, came to their table and threw a drink on them.

The current girlfriend then reported that she was walking past The Summit just after 12:45am the same morning when Kinney ran up to her, threw her to the ground and punched her several times. The alleged victim suffered a bump on her head.

Minutes after the reported assault, Kinney allegedly texted a mutual friend saying she had “just fought” the other woman, “took her down by the hair”, and “got 3 punches in while she was on the ground”.

Kinney was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 4:30 Saturday morning and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, she faces a maximum of one year in jail.
