A Hiawatha man who was arrested for an alleged shoplifting incident in Coralville is facing additional charges after reportedly being found with meth.

Police say that 31-year-old Matthew Ehr  of 1st Avenue was at Kohl’s Department Store Saturday night just before 9 when he’s accused of stealing merchandise. Employees were able to give officers a description of the vehicle Ehr was driving as he left the area, as well as the license plate number.

Police contacted Ehr, who allegedly admitted to the theft and volunteered that he had a meth pipe in his pocket. The pipe was seized, and a subsequent search reportedly turned up three small baggies believed to contain methamphetamine weighing 7.4 grams.

The amount of alleged controlled substance was enough to charge Ehr with a Class B possession count, as well as Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp, possession of paraphernalia, and the theft charge from the Kohl’s incident. If convicted, Ehr could be sentenced to up to over 30 years in prison.
