A Cedar Rapids man who was allegedly tossed out of a downtown Iowa City bar for smoking was arrested after a dust-up that ensured when he was escorted from the establishment.
Police say that 19-year-old Kristijan Smolcic of Oakland Road Northeast was in The Fieldhouse on South Dubuque Street February 15th just before 1am when he was observed by bar staff smoking inside. Smolcic was told to leave the bar.
He reportedly protested being ejected and repeatedly asked to be allowed to stay. As bar staff were physically ejecting Smolcic, he allegedly started throwing punches, and struck a door attendant in the face, causing bleeding.
Police say Smolcic had bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech, unsteady balance, and smelled of ingested alcohol. He reportedly admitted to drinking and provided a PBT reading of .133 post arrest.
Smolcic has been charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and assault causing bodily injury. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
